Planers

A Planer is a motorised tool for shaping wood; they are used to reduce the thickness of wood and to produce a smooth finish. They are based on a very simple principle; a cutting blade is attached to the body of the planer at an angle, so that it protrudes slightly below the flat base of the plane. When moved over a surface the flat base guides the blade to remove only the high spots of the surface, after several passes you are left with a smooth flat surface. Most motorised Planers feature a vacuum that is used to take away excess waste material in order to keep the work surface clear.
